Imagine I planted a tree in my backyard. In order for that tree to flourish and survive, I must continue to water it. But after just a few months, I decide I want to move it to the front of my house where I have placed some of my favorite flowers. I begin to dig it up and move it to the front of the house. I then change my mind again and decide to replant it in my backyard where it was originally placed. Whats wrong with this picture? Not only will this tree fail to flourish miserably but struggle to just survive.
The same applies to us as humans. Some people decide that they need to take a break from attending church, others may pray when they need something or they decide that work is more important. Every person has a different story. Life can get a bit hectic and it’s okay because I too have been through this. I know I am not perfect and people will make a decision on their level of priorities whether right or wrong. I am not here to judge. But with that being said, I wanted to use this illustration to paint a picture of how I want my 2018 year to flourish.
I cannot believe that it is almost to the end of January, which means yet another month to get better!
Like many others, this is my first time that I have decided to use one word for the year. This year I decided to focus primarily on building my business and to grow more as a woman through my faith, work ethic, and overall health. As 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power and love, and self-discipline.” This is the first scripture that came to mind as I had begun piecing together my goals. It wasn’t by coincidence that I came across this scripture, in fact, I wrote down this specific passage in my personal journal to motivate me through my journey of 2018. With that being said, I was able to figure out exactly which word I wanted to apply to my year of success.
The word that I have chosen is – Consistency.
Consistency plays a major role in my life currently as I begin to build on my career as a woman and as a wife. I decided the word consistency because in order to reach my goals I must remain consistent in the effort I put forward which includes; attending church, seeking prayer, praying with my husband and others, giving to others, maintain a high standard of work ethic and most importantly continue to improve my health. As Psalm 37:5 says, “Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust Him, and He will help you.” This scripture I feel not only speaks for myself but to those around the world who are struggling in whatever situation they are in. I think this a powerful scripture to hold onto and to remember the very reason why you are still here on earth – Trust Him for God will help you.
So back to the illustration that I painted for you all at the beginning of my post. How does the watering of a tree coincide with the word consistency? It is simple. I am the tree and in order for me to grow, I must be consistent in everything I do. Which means, drink more water, take my vitamins, grow in my faith by attending church, pray more with my husband and for others, give to those in need… the list goes on. As 1 John 2:6 says, “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” The strong point of this passage is the term ‘walked.’ Walking is a consistent motion we do every day. The same applies to our lives. Make time for God, your family, work and time to improve your health.
