While I sit here and complain about the cold weather we are experiencing in Switzerland right now my family is enjoying the beautiful heat in Australia. Yes, I know, you’re probably thinking well isn’t it Christmas time soon? Yes *giggle* Australia celebrates Christmas a little different from parts of the world. Rather than sit in front of the fireplace toasting marshmallows hoping to stay warm, Australians love a good barbeque and some outdoor cricket to keep us entertained – the perfect Christmas I think.
Today’s post stems from actually my twin sister who so kindly sent me photos of her recent outing with her boyfriend. Then I thought what better way than to share some of these amazing locations with my readers. So if you have the chance to visit Australia or you, in fact, live in Australia and are stuck for ideas – thank me later. Each of the three locations is perfect for dates, daytime/evening fun, family gatherings and/or if you just want to go solo and enjoy nature! So here we go.
1. Lysterfield Lake
For those that are local to the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne would know the Lysterfield Park is one of the most beautiful family-friendly places to be! Australian Parks Victoria acknowledges the Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Australia – including its parks and reserves which is full of ancestral history. Lysterfield Park is not far from Melbourne, offering a variety of different recreational activities.
- Sailing, Paddle Boating, Surf Skiing, Canoeing
- Mountain Biking
- Walking/Running Track
- Lake Activities
- Lysterfield Family Picnic Area
- Horse Riding
Upcoming events include: December 5th-19th @10am The Kangaroo Welcome Walk. Join a guided tour facilitated by one of the volunteers of the park to see local kangaroos lazing under the trees – HOW AWESOME IS THAT!
2. Powlett River
To be completely honest I had no clue what this place was until my sister shared it with me. My mother at a very young age used to have all kinds of fun with her family here which is so crazy because my sisters have now been able to experience some of my mother’s childhood memories. Powlett River is located in the West Gippsland region of Melbourne, Victoria.
It’s what my sister likes to call the “sneaky” beach because it’s hidden from the public eye. This place is incredible! It’s surrounded by beautiful sand dunes and people often boogie board – something I loved as a kid. There are also caravan parks and a local town around the area if you fancy a few days down that way. If you’re looking for a beautiful place for the Summer then I HIGHLY suggest this place!
3. Kyeema Track – Dandenong Ranges
I saved the best for last! I know that my husband and I would love to do something like this when we touch back down in Australia soil. The Kyeema Track which is located in the most beautiful parts of Melbourne the Dandenong Ranges is a hiking trail that overlooks the beautiful town. Although my sister will not tell me where they took this picture (aka top secret), I encourage you to go on this wonderful walk yourself or tag a friend along with you! It’s also a perfect date destination too *hint. Pack yourself a nice picnic lunch and enjoy the ray of sunshine that Melbourne loves to produce!
So there you have it. Three beautiful places to visit while you are in Melbourne or if you are stuck for ideas to enjoy the Summer heat in Australia. I hope you enjoyed my post!
Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!
