5 Advantages Of January And How You Can Make Full Use Of It.

Wow, where did 2018 go? I mean I think that has got to be one of the fastest years dated from memory. January is a month that is full of inspiration. I say this because it’s a time where everybody has put forth a list of goals that one would like to achieve. I know I am a chronic goal setter. In today’s post, I didn’t want it to be something that you’ve probably already heard – you know the importance of goal setting blah blah blah. Instead, I wanted to make it a practical blog post on how to make full use of the first month of the year!

So here are my top 5 advantages of January.

Now that I am well and truly out of school and focused on achieving a successful career – I use January as a month of planning. I section off the first week of January to create ideas for my blog, a goal or two to achieve this month, small projects I want to start working on or even just figuring out a month worth of workouts. I use this month as a trial and error process. I’ve never been one to plan months and months in advance, instead, I choose to take it one month at a time. The advantage to this is if something works – stick to it! This way when February rolls around it won’t be as hard to adjust to the changes.

Okay, I know that whole new year new me thing is a bit old so don’t judge me for this second advantage. However, I agree that January gives you an opportunity to start fresh not just physically but mentally too. I never like referring back to my past, instead, I use January to develop a mindset of remaining in the present.  This way you are able to focus on what is important now rather than the fairytale future result because 9/10 NOTHING EVER GOES TO PLAN. There may be a few bumps along the way before you achieve your goal, however, with a present mentality you take every day as it comes. Truthfully, I find this to be a less stressful method.

When I was researching what sort of things people use the month of January for example; goal setting, holiday planning, maybe a wedding coming up, I was amused to see that the top Google search was a “dry January.” Whether it is alcohol, a diet change, a one coffee type of daily habit, January is a great month to put whatever it is you want to change to the test. Now I’m not saying in one month you will completely transform yourself. What I am saying is, the advantage of testing something out the first month of the year is that you’re able to program your mind to continue the fixed habit and make it a routine – it’s pretty much the exact same thing as point 1 as part of planning month.

January is a month full of inspiration. Generally, people are eager (not all) to get back to work and into a routine again. I know for athletes like myself we enjoy a good break, however, if you are anything like my #ballislife husband sitting still is not apart of our character. Meaning, if he hasn’t got a basketball on him or some type of workout in he feels like he hasn’t done enough. The point I am trying to make is to use all of your motivation to kick-start your year off right. Whether it is planning a 7am gym workout, a project you want to launch this year or even just catching up with mates throughout the week – BE PROACTIVE! January is a month of setting the pace for the year.

I left this one for last. I am all about the holiday season because you get to spend some of the most precious time with friends and family. However, the holiday season is now over! January is a month of focus. Use this month as a time to speak everything into existence. Envision a successful thought. Picture your mind as a blank canvas ready to paint a beautiful picture. Pay active attention to the month and it’s totally okay to be a little selfish too. I like to call this month self-loving January. The advantage of this is you can execute the game plan with little to no distractions. Remember the present mindset will be your best friend!

So there you have it. Just remember that not all things go to plan and that’s totally okay. The strongest person never allows negative situations to completely bring them down, instead, one finds a way to find a solution to reach his/her goal. Never quit. Here’s to a great 2019!
